The best option for this that I have found is to use mudlord's VST driver found on his site along with the VSTi plugin (VSC.dll) from the Roland Virtual Sound Canvas Multi Pack (model VSC-MP1) software synth, which is a an old official Roland product which almost perfectly. The sound module can, of course, be fully operated from the front panel buttons etc. Although the remote control can fully function as described I cannot give any assurances on it's future performance in view of the missing battery tray. Until other General MIDI boxes and cards come out, composers writing for that market will be more or less forced to use the Sound Canvas. For multimedia producers, it's a godsend: a relatively inexpensive, idiot-proof, easy to set up, terrific-sounding box for playing MIDI files. I have previously used a piece of tape to keep the battery in place but a more secure method could possibly be devised or a replacement sought. However if the battery is inserted into the slot and nudged down the remote control becomes fully functional. This is the small plastic tray that the circular CR2025 battery (included) is dropped into and slid into the slot at the base of the remote control.
